6.1 The Application Process
CLICK HERE TO DOWN LOAD APPLICATION FORM and complete after reading the following information. An application fee of $200 is applicable.
A person applying to become a Certified Practitioner (CP) must submit to the secretary of the Board of Certified Practitioners (CP Board) a completed application on the prescribed form together with:
· a detailed work history, or curriculum vitae (CV), providing clear evidence that the person has worked competently in the general area of practice and in the grade applied for, and showing that he or she meets the requirements described in these rules;
· evidence that over the last three years the person has fulfilled the On-going Professional Development (OPD) requirements, as detailed in the Rules of the Board of Certified Practioners; and
- the names of at least two (2) suitably qualified and experienced industry participants, who are familiar with their qualifications and experience and can substantiate their CV. Each of these referees will be required to submit a testimonial to the CP Board to accompany the application. At least one of the referees should have the qualifications or experience relating to the applicant’s proposed grade.
The applicant must also:
· sign a declaration that all the information in the application is a true;
· furnish any other information the CP Board may reasonably request;
· sign a declaration of adherence to the Code of Ethics;
· sign a declaration that they will complete OPD as required from time to time; and
· pay the required application fee.
6.2 Assessment
CV and OPD records will be analysed for evidence that members meet the requirements for accreditation. The applicant may be invited by the CP Board to attend an interview in support of their application.
6.3 The Audit Process
Every year, the CP Board will select a statistically representative random sample from amongst the registered Certified Practitioners and subject their OPD logbooks to audit. An audited Certified Practitioner must provide such evidence as the CP Board may consider satisfactory to demonstrate compliance with the On-going Professional Development (OPD) requirements.
Individuals selected for an audit will receive notification from the CP Board calling for:
- details of their recent experience; and
- records of their OPD activities over the past three years.
Those selected individuals will be required to reply with the required information summarised in no more than 5 pages.
The CP Board will assess individuals’ compliance with OPD. A Certified Practitioner who, in the Board’s opinion, has not fulfilled the requirements of the Rules may be suspended or removed from the Register of Certified Practitioners. Such action will be taken with natural justice and equity. The CP Board may be guided by The Institute’s Australian Council.
A Certified Practitioner who provides false or misleading information about his or her OPD compliance to the CP Board will have his or her Certified Practitioner accreditation revoked and the incident will be reported to the Australian Council of The Institute as a breach of The Institute's Code of Ethics.
7. Referee Requirements
Persons seeking to become a Certified Practicing Quarry Supervisor or Manager shall provide the names of at least two (2) suitably qualified and experienced industry participants, who are familiar with the applicant’s qualifications and experience and can substantiate the applicant’s CV. Each of these referees will be required to submit a testimonial to the CP Board to accompany the application.
8. Professional Code of Ethics
An essential requirement of all professional certification systems is their professional ethical standards and the commitment to those standards by those seeking to obtain and maintain that professional certification.
These ethical standards are the means by which The Institute applies discipline to the behaviour of its members, and is one of the main reasons why the system will be available only to Institute members.
9. On-going Professional Development(OPD)
All professional bodies have, for some time, encouraged members to take part in and record activities related to their On-going Professional Development (OPD). The Institute supports this practice and has included it as an essential requirement of gaining and maintaining of Certified Practicing status.
Those seeking to gain or maintain CPQS or CPQM status must complete at least 30 hours of OPD per year, calculated over a rolling period of three years, and review their OPD annually. A minimum of ten (10) of the professional development hours required must be in IQA based activities.
10.Current Practice
An essential aspect of The Institute’s Quarry Management Certification System is that it sets standards for those ‘practicing’ as managers and supervisors in the quarry industry. Gaining recognition of CPQS or CPQM status requires the minimum experience, or practicing, requirements set out in section 5 above. The maintenance of CPQS and CPQM status similarly has minimum requirements for maintaining practice in quarry management.
The overall requirement is a minimum of 200 hours per year of appropriate maintenance of practice. This maintenance of practice shall involve activities directly related to the roles set out in section 5 above or the establishment of plans or systems required for the conduct of those roles.
A valuable method of demonstrating current practice in areas of competence is through the maintenance of an up to date curriculum vitae (CV), work history or statement of employment and/or through the maintenance of a logbook. When the CP Board is reviewing a member’s compliance with the requirements for continuing practice, they may only need to review the member’s CV and logbook.
