    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

In order to gain Certified Practicing Quarry Supervisor or Manager status, the following experience requirements apply:

5.1Certified Practicing Quarry Supervisors

Persons seeking to become a Certified Practicing Quarry Supervisor shall show evidence that, in the five (5) years prior to applying, they have a minimum of thirty-six (36) months practical experience made up as follows:

  1. A minimum of twelve (12) months practical experience in quarrying, mining or similar industry circumstances, undertaking work such as:

*  overburden removal

*  plant operation (fixed & mobile)

*  road formation and maintenance

*  stockpiling

*  dewatering

*  product sampling and testing

*  drilling

*  equipment maintenance

*  handling and using explosives

*  site rehabilitation

 

  1. plus at least twenty-four (24) months supervisory experience in quarrying, mining, or similar industry circumstances made up as follows:
    1. a minimum of six (6) months involved in each of the following roles (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently):

*  monitoring workplace safety

*  applying statutory compliance management plan

*  applying risk management system

*  applying the pit plan

           

    1. plus a minimum of six (6) months involved in three (3) of the following roles (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently):

*  applying risk management processes

*  conducting safety and health investigations

*  communicating information

*  reporting on financial activities

*  fostering positive community relations

*  leading work teams

*  supervising dust and noise control

*  implementing operational plans

*  applying site quality plans

*  implementing continuous improvement

*  developing teams and individuals

*  undertaking financial planning

*  promoting the business

*  undertaking business planning

*  managing finances

*  supervising laboratory operations

*  co-ordinating the implementation of customer service strategies

*  implementing and monitoring environmental policies

 

c.    plus a minimum of six (6) months involved in three (3) of the following roles (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently):

*  supervising recycled materials operations

*  applying site waste & by-product management plan

*  applying site plant and resources management plan

*  supervising operation of electrical equipment and   installations

*  supervising site rehabilitation plan

*  supervising mobile plant operations

*  conducting shot firing

*  applying site stockpile management plan

*  supervising dredging operations

*  designing surface mining blasts

*  supervising processing operations

*  managing blast hole drilling operations

*  applying site water management plan

*  managing blasting operations[1]

*  applying site plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance plan

 

 

d.    plus a minimum of six (6) months involved in at lease three (3) additional roles listed in 2 b & c above (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently).

5.2 Certified Practicing Quarry Managers

Persons seeking to become a Certified Practicing Quarry Manager shall show evidence that in the ten (10) years prior to applying, they have met the experience requirements of a Certified Practicing Quarry Supervisor, plus they have a minimum of twenty-four (24) months additional management experience in quarrying, mining or similar industry circumstances made up as follows:

1.    a minimum of six (6) months involved in each of the following roles (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently):

*  implementing and maintaining management plans to control risk

*  implementing pit plans

 

2.    plus a minimum of six (6) months involved in three (3) of the following roles (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently):

*  facilitating work teams

*  promoting continuous improvement

*  managing the operational plan

*  developing a workplace learning environment

*  preparing budgets and financial plans

*  providing leadership in the workplace

*  establishing effective workplace relationships

*  facilitating & capitalising on change and innovation

*  managing personal work priorities and professional development

*  conducting sales in construction materials operations

 

3.    plus a minimum of six (6) months involved in three (3) of the following roles (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently):

*  conducting shot firing

*  managing dredging operations

*  implementing water management plan

*  implementing site plant & resource management plan

*  designing surface blasts

*  selecting and installing quarry plant & equipment

*  managing blast hole drilling operations

*  implementing site processing plant operations

*  managing blasting operations[1]

*  implementing stockpile management plans

*  implementing site waste and by-product management plan

*  implementing & maintaining site maintenance management plans

 

4.    plus a minimum of six (6) months involved in at least three (3) additional roles listed in 2 & 3 above (all or some of which may be undertaken concurrently).


Notes 1 and 2 - Persons seeking certification  including the use of explosives shall have evidence of at least six (6) months experience in managing blasting operations
