COURSE OVERVIEW

The potential for rockfalls and slope failures makes working near quarry walls, stockpiles and dump faces a hazardous task. As quarries develop over time, they usually get deeper and the overall slope angle becomes steeper which can increase the risk of rockfalls. Stockpiles and waste dumps contain unconsolidated material which can be subject to collapse.  Geotechnical awareness and skills to recognise and manage potential rockfall and batter collapse hazards are necessary to achieve an acceptable level of risk.

The Slope Stability workshop has been designed to provide participants with knowledge relating to geotechnical awareness skills and management strategies to minimise the potential risk associated with slope instability and rock falls. The potential for rockfalls and slope failures makes working near quarry walls, stockpiles and dump faces a hazardous task.  The best control for protecting people working near quarry faces is a development design that considers the site’s particular geological, geotechnical and geohydrological characteristics. This course will help participants understand the the basis of how to mine the quarry.

This is workshop provides an excellent opportunity to complete the IQA Slope Stability workshop at Holcim Beenleigh Quarry, which will include a viewing of the quarry to assist learning.  Holcim Beenleigh Quarry provides essential raw materials for major building and infrastructure projects across South East Queensland and around 30 full-time Holcim staff and additional employment opportunities for many contractors and suppliers.

Who should attend:
