Introduction  This PDP has been designed to provide participants with knowledge relating to specifications, quarry product test methods, quality control, basic statistical measures, technical characteristics, and the influence of quarry products on concrete, asphalt, seals, bases and fills, and other rock products.

Topics Covered

Describe the various specifications and standards relating to the manufacture and sale of products within the quarrying industry, including how to read and interpret the documentation.

Outline and describe the typically specified test methods used in the quarrying industry, covering the equipment required, conduct of the test method, and how to review conformance to the specification. 

Describe the use and application of key quarry material value-added products, such as concrete, asphalt, seals, bases, and rock. Outline the basic manufacturing process for quarry materials and end-use products. Detail the key attributes and influences of aggregates used in these products.

Describe and outline key characteristics of manufactured sand and its uses. 

Review Alkali Aggregate Reactivity (AAR) and provide a basic understanding of control methods.

Define quality control and inspection and test plans for quarry products. Review basic statistical methods used to manage quality control in a quarry manufacturing process.
