The Plant & Equipment Half Day Online Workshop will provide an understanding of the safety issues associated with the operation of plant and equipment in quarries, specifically covering: Legislation, Safety, Guarding & Isolation, and Mobile Plant.

The operation of fixed items of machinery, plant and equipment on a site presents risks to health and safety of operator's, workers and others.  Fixed plant & equipment includes all plant, machinery, and equipment situated on a site.  This plant and equipment workshop will look specifically at the following:

  • Legislation
  • Safety
  • Guarding & Isolation
  • Mobile Plant

Overview

This Plant & Equipment online workshop examines the:

  • legislative requirements for management and operation of plant and equipment in quarries.
  • Importance of managing risks associated with fixed plant and equipment, to protect from harm, injury or fatality.
  • Importance of and requirements for guarding of plant and equipment.
  • Specific risks and controls related to the use of mobile plant in quarries.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand the basic legislative and compliance requirements for the management and operation of plant and equipment in quarries, and the roles and responsibilities of duty holders
  • To understand the risk management process and identify, assess and control risks
  • To understand the plant lifecycle, and the need to assess risk at each stage
  • To understand the importance of ongoing monitoring of risks and controls, and identify mechanisms for carrying our monitoring
  • To understand the importance of, and legislative requirements for, guarding of plant and equipment in quarries
  • To identify types of guards and their application to quarry plant and equipment
  • To understand the 'human factors' which apply to the design and installation of guarding
  • To understand procedures for isolation and lockout
  • To understand the legislative requirements for operation of mobile plant
  • To understand the specific risks associated with mobile plant in quarries, and relevant controls

Workshop Facilitator | Chris Georgiou

Chris has worked as a manager in the construction materials and mining industry for over 10 years.  In this time, he has held senior statutory management positions at large hard rock quarries and a mineral sand mine. Chris is passionate about safety in the workplace ensuring systems and processes are in place support to the workforce to achieve this. 

Continuing Professional Development Hours (CPD Hours): 4.5

  • IQA QMCS: Risk Management. 
  • NSW MOC: 1. Mining and WHS Systems (Subject B: Principal hazards).
  • QLD PCS: Category Pending

A completion certificate will be issued once finished.
