Contractor management is the managing of an external third-party resource to work for a company. Contractor management implements a system that manages contractors' health and safety information, insurance information, training programs and specific documents that pertain to the contractor and the business.

The Brady Review revealed that, of the serious accidents examined which occurred in quarries, the number of accidents involving contractors was nearly double the number of accidents involving employees. Contractor management can be a very challenging area and is one often overlooked. Just because a company hires a contractor, doesn’t mean its safety responsibilities are absolved or that the contractor has the correct compliance documentation in order.

Course Overview

Under WHS legislation, the principal duty of employers is to provide a working environment for employees that is safe and without risks to health. This duty extends to contractors in relation to matters over which the employer has control.

When contractors are engaged, there are a number of important factors that need to be considered when it comes to effective contractor safety management.  Work arrangements between the two parties need to be clearly defined to deal with these WHS obligations.

This course will look at what must be considered when engaging contractors with regard to pre-qualification, onboarding, performance monitoring and performance review.
